Design of a battery for an electric bike

The project focuses in the design and optimization of an aluminum-air battery that could be used in a low-cost mobility application such as a bicycle. Thorough the optimization of the design we will fabricate a first functional prototype with potential for a possible future commercial application. This new type of battery for bicycles based in aluminum could revolutionize the marked of bicycles because of its low cost, recyclability and more environmentally friendly characteristics. An environmentally friendly battery for an environmentally friendly transport. This project is developed in collaboration with the Schools of Chemical Engineering (MSc. Cindy Torres) and Electrical Engineering (Dr. José David Rojas) and the School of Industrial Design of the Technological Institute of Costa Rica (MSc. Miguel Araya).
